The author holds that there has been a duality in Chinese calligraphy: linguistic property and cultural property.As the reflection of Chinese characters in Chinese language and a representative of Chinese culture,Chinese calligraphy embodies the relationship between language and culture,which not only helps the teaching and learning of Chinese characters in making fun for learners in their learning of Chinese characters,but also facilitates the learners to understand Chinese culture.Therefore,it is significant to conduct researches on it in the international education of Chinese.This thesis are presented by five main parts,which shows the macroscopic truth through the microscopic ones by making a systematic and detailed investigations as well as proposing constructive advice to Chinese language teachers’ and Chinese calligraphy course learners’ cognition and learning situation of Chinese calligraphy along with the spreading situation of Chinese calligraphy according to the specific actual condition of the Confucius Institute.The first part is the introduction,which presents the current lack of study about the investigation of Chinese calligraphy learning situation at Confucius institutes,and it is also relatively short of the research on the spreading it,which shows the significance of the article.The second part is about Chinese teachers’ learning situation of Chinese calligraphy at Confucius Institute at Assumption university of Thailand.These situations specifically show in the lack of knowledge about Chinese calligraphy,frequent mistakes in the writing of the orders of sampling characters,sluggishness in the post study,the learning motivation becomes weak etc.The third part is about Chinese calligraphy course learners’ learning situation of Chinese calligraphy at Confucius Institute at Assumption university of Thailand.The survey shows that most learners reflect good impression on Chinese calligraphy and wish to learn it “well” or “very well” and can persist in learning it before learning.After learning,the difficulties the learners meet are: the unfamiliarity in writing,errors of strokes,errors of components,errors of constructs and so on,and some learners are in requirement of the learning method of Chinese calligraphy.Concerning about it,the author put forward the theory learning method of Chinese characters,the systematic learning method of Chinese characters,long-period persisting learningmethod,suggestion learning method as well as give professional practicable advice.The fourth part is about the spreading situation of Chinese calligraphy at Confucius Institute at Assumption university of Thailand.It includes the spreading of activities and organizations(matches spreading,cultural activities spreading,associates spreading,learning and communication centers spreading),public transmission and interpersonal transmission etc.The fifth part is about the suggestions to the spreading of Chinese calligraphy at Confucius Institute at Assumption university of Thailand.It has summarized the three lacks of the spreading of Chinese calligraphy at Confucius Institute at Assumption university of Thailand i.e.the problems in bidding for activities,the difficulty to enlarge the Confucius institutes and the issue about sustainability,and the accordant solutions have been put forward.These investigations that specifically describing the learning and spreading situation of Chinese calligraphy at a Confucius institute have combined scientific theories with detailed practice,which are hopefully to provide some reference to the study of Chinese calligraphy at Confucius institutes in the future.
