A Study Of Zhangjie’s Novel Tragedy

Zhangjie is a remarkable woman writer with a unique style in the new literature arena.She started writing relatively late but her literary creation keeps sustainability.From the age of 40 to 70,Zhangjie has made brilliant achievements in writing during thirty years.So far she is the only writer who has won Mao Dun Literature Prize twice,and she is also one of the most influential contemporary writers.There is a theme of tragedy that runs through her writing.Individual fate and human destiny are focus concerns in her novels.She demonstrates her deep thinking about female existence situation、changing times and the meaning of life through the tragic fate of images,which coveys her strong responsibility consciousness and human care with compassion.This thesis sets to research Zhangjie’s novels that mainly based of tragedy.Combing Chinese and Western theory of tragedy,taking an approach applies integrity studying and case analysis,the thesis analyzes tragedy images of Zhangjie’s novels,studying the tragedy spirit and artistry of her novels,which is trying to have an overall grasp and intensive study on her works.The thesis can be divided into three chapters.The first chapter focuses on generalizing different tragedy images of her novels.From the conflicting sexes in marriage,it analyzes the persistent and infatuated woman,the ideal but illusory man,the masculine woman and the feminine man;it also analyzes the oppressive innovator,the time patient,the lack civilization,and the soul chaser in the whole contemporary.The second chapter mainly discusses the tragedy spirit of her novels.Premised on tragedy reasons and manifestations,the thesis discusses the tragedy spirit in three aspects,including love and marriage dilemma,female value imbalance and life tragedy.The representation of the tragedy spirit can be divided into desperation for marriage without love,bewilderment by imbalance of female value,and cogitation about human life meaning.Firstly,the love and marriage tragedy includes marriage dilemmas and breakouts.Secondly,in one aspect,she keeps a positive attitude to build female self-identification,yet she puts herself unconsciously in the mental predicament on another aspect of the problem.After disillusionment,the only hope is maternal instinctive myth that could liberate women.Thirdly,the cogitation about individual life and literary life can be describe as a spiritual journey that experienced through both chase to rove,realism to fantasy.The third chapter briefly discusses art forms of her novels.It analyzes creative characteristics bases on specific texts,including aesthetic and ugliness,metaphor and symbol,mysticism and destiny.Finally,this thesis will make a summary and commentary about the characteristics,value and limitations of the tragedy novel.
