The Application Of GIS To Field Archaeology

After taking part in the archaeological excavations of GanQuan Palace, I summerized the Application of GIS to Field Archaeology by some cases during the excavation and ArcGIS.By now there are still some questions in the field archaeology, for example, real-time data failure. Meanwhile, plotting varies from person to person and even the data processing is recorded manually. Besides, after archaeological excavations, the method of collecting, classifying and preserving is backward. In order to solve these problems, I started with the database of Field Archaeology and find out the methods and procedures to set up the database. According to the demand of application, I set up an information system of Field Archaeology based on ArcGIS, Geodatabase and ArcMap. This essay is about the design and solution of the database, concluding the ways of data acquisition and procession, which will be convenient for our archaeological work. At the end of my essay, I have summerized the methods and results at present, analysing feasibility and the potential problems. Finally, I analysed its advantages and disadvantages, including the development and future perspective m my essay.
