| The formation of a primitive village or a market town may take hundreds of years,whereas the distillation of a unique history and culture may even take longer. The increasingly scarce and unrenewable resources of history and culture have become an indispensable element for the sustainable development of today’s ancient towns. This thesis is a case study of the Qijiang ancient town, which has a unique cultural resource but nevertheless has stopped developing due to limited number of staying original residents. However, following the national policy of New-Type Urbanization, the ancient town is now embracing a golden opportunity of re-development.Under the background of New-Type Urbanization and based on the rich environmental and cultural resources of the town, this paper has conducted a viability analysis of developing the town’s cultural and tourism potentials, using related theories and methodologies. Following that is a planning of the town’s cultural and tourism industries with focuses on development thinking, development strategy, development targets, activities, and space allocation. Aiming at increasing income and attracting jobs,the developing of Qijiang ancient town’s cultural and tourism industries would achieve both economic and social benefits; it will also help promote the town’s urbanization, as well as provide a practical reference for the development of other ancient towns. |
