The Research About The Differences Of Friendship Perception And Friend Preference Among Students With Different Personality Type

Friend and friendship plays an important role in one’s growth and development. While personality type is relatively stable of one’s psychological characteristics comprehensive, then the similarities in personality types may also be a factor that influence college students make choice when they making friends. Friendship perception is the understanding and cognition of friend, friendship and communication behavior means others regard someione as a friend. Friends preferences is a kind of behavior propensity that when individuals make friends, which personality type they tend to choose.The research maily study the friendship perception and friend preference of different personality type students. Compiling the cognitive questionnaire of friendship for college students which has high reliability and validity, through literature arrangement, open questionnaire and preliminary survey. On this basis, using the Chinese version MBTI form M revised by Cai Huajian, research the difference of friendship perception and friend preference between different personality type graduate and undergraduate students who comes from HUST. By questionnaire researching and data analysising, we get the following conclusion:1)During all the students who participate the reseach, ISTJ, ENTJ, ESTJand INTJare the types which most students blong to, while ENFJ、ESFP、ESTP(extraversion-sensing-thinking-perceiving)and ISTPare the least types between HUST’s students. Above all, students who blongs to ntroversion type is much more than extraversion.2)For college student, it indeed exist gender differences in friendship perception. Students who have different education background are also have different friendship perception: graduate student’s perception of friendship are more mature than undergraduates, and graduate student can take a more tolerance attitude to their friend than undergraduates. Different professional backgrounds college students are also have significant diference in friendship perception: students who majored in liberal arts are significantly different with students who majored in science and engineering in friendship perception, while the students professioned in science and engineering have no such difference.3)University students with different personality type have no differnce in the score of friendship cognitive questionnaire, while it exist significant difference in certain factors.4) College students with different personality type have significant differnce in friend choice.Whatever circumstance college students stayed in, they tend to choose the person whose personality type is NF as their friends, while the person whose personality type is NT are being chosen rarely.5)According to the scores of friendship cognitive questionnaire, students who participate this research can be divided into two types: the first group is much higer than the second group in the total scores and four factor scores--bennifit-conflict factor, help-support factor, accompany, and congenial factor, while they got the similar scores in other four factors. Students with different types of friendship perception have no significant difference in friend choice tendency.
