ObjectiveTo investigate the situation and explore the influence factors of nurse assistants` attitudes toward old people and burnout,then further analyze the correlation and clear the mediation effects of emotional labor between above the two elements.So as to lay the foundation for putting forward tailored effective recommendations to improve the nurse assistants` attitudes toward the elderly and ease burnout,which will inspire the enthusiasm,steady the nurse assistants team,and improve the quality of care.MethodsIt was a descriptive research,366 nurse assistants was recruited from 20 long-term care facilities in Zhengzhou from April to August in 2016.The investigative tools include a self-designed demographic questionnaire,KAOPS,MBI-GS,and Emotional Labor Scale.Data was analyzed using Epidata3.1 and SPSS17.0 software.The nurse assistants` general information was presented by descriptive statistical analysis(percentage,mean,standard deviation).Influence factors of nurse assistants` attitudes toward the elderly and burnout were analyzed by T test,single factor variance analysis,multiple linear step-wise regression.The correlation between the two elements is conducted by partial correlation and mediation effect analysis.Results1.The general information of 366 nurse assistants was as follows.There were 86 man and 268 woman included in 354 nurse assistants.The average age of them was 48.91±8.22,over a half are with middle school education.The percent of them holding certificates was 68.08%.Their monthly wage was between?2000~3000.2.The score of KAOPS was 96.76±6.97,it showed the nurse assistants` attitudes toward the old people was slightly positive.The influence factors contained educational level,type of the elderly,ever lived with the elderly,religious belief and certificate level.These factors can explain 29.0% of the whole score.3.The score of burnout,emotional exhaustion,cynicism,reduced personal accomplishment was2.33±0.85,2.81±1.14,2.15±1.13,1.85±1.02.It showed mild-to-moderate burnout,and emotional exhaustion were the worst.Educational level,work satisfaction,certificate level,degree of respect,age and monthly wage can explain 33.3% of burnout.The nurse assistants` attitudes toward the elderly can explain additional 15.6% alone.4.The result of partial correlation was that there was a negative correlation between attitudes toward the elderly and burnout,the same as with emotional labor.There was a positive correlation between burnout and emotional labor.5.The result of mediation effect analyses showed emotional labor played a partial mediating role between attitudes toward the elderly and burnout,and the intermediary effect is 29.07%.Conclusions1.The nurse assistants` attitudes toward the elderly is slightly positive.And the influence factors contained educational level,type of the elderly,ever lived with the elderly,religious belief and certificate level.2.The level of job burnout of nurse assistants was mild-to-moderate,and emotional exhaustion was the worst.Influence factors include educational level,work satisfaction,certificate level,degree of respect,age,monthly income and nurse assistants` attitudes toward the elderly.3.There was a significant negative correlation between attitudes toward the elderly and burnout.Emotional labor played a partial mediating role between attitudes toward the elderly and burnout.The intermediary effect is 29.07%.It admonished that measures can focus on improving negative attitudes,strengthening emotional intelligence to relieve job burnout.
