Innovative Ingenuity-Research On The Design Of The Gold And Silver Incense Cones In Tang Dynasty

The incense culture of China has a long history. With the usage of incense appliance, incense cone becomes a symbol of social and material culture, also represents the spiritual culture of Chinese people. The incense cones of Tang Dynasty are analyzed in the article, which melts the practical, beauty and technology in whole body. To researching the creation concept of the incense cones in Tang Dynasty, the theory of the art design was used to analyze the miracle appliance deeply and comprehensively. Now the incense cone becomes more and more popular in the modern age. The development background of the incense cones is similar with contemporary China. The purpose of the article is to analyze the design philosophy and methods in Tang Dynasty. Subsequently these philosophy and methods are used to explore the inspiration for the modern incense design and other product design.The generation and development of the incense cones are summarized in the second chapter, as well as the function of the incense cones. The function of the incense cone was analyzed from the perspective of iconography and literature. Moreover, the incense cones were researched from two aspects, one is technology and the other is processing. The third chapter named the wonders of science and technology, in which the structure of the incense cones is researched with the mechanical theory. And then a comprehensive study of the material and processing, decorative patterns and decorative characteristics is introduced in the fourth chapter. As a result, the author considers the incense cones as a unique cultural symbol in the Tang Dynasty, and tries to explore the relationship between the incense design and the social cultural background of that dynasty. At last, the design philosophy and methods are discussed, especially for the subsequent influence of the multiple purpose of thinking.
