In order to guarantee quality of the multimedia data packet transmission, it needs to select the transmission link both high bandwidth and high stability. However, the existing link bandwidth algorithm is not accurate. Not only the path loss in the signal transmission is not considered by the algorithm, but also the effect of the node speed on the bandwidth estimation is not considered. Meanwhile, the existing routing protocols can’t guarantee the transmission quality of the multimedia services. So, in this paper, the bandwidth estimation and routing algorithm of the vehicular ad hoc networks are studied in the urban environment.Firstly, The available bandwidth estimation algorithm of the VABE(Vehicular Available Bandwidth Estimation) is proposed in urban vehicular ad hoc networks. The algorithm considers that the signal is affected by the refraction, diffraction and reflection of the city obstacles in the transmission process and the effect of the node’s speed.Secondly, the proposed VABE algorithm is used to estimate the bandwidth of the node of routing, meanwhile, the stability of the routing node is also measured by using the center of the node and the stability of the node. As a result, the available bandwidth, node centrality, and node stability are processed using the fuzzy logic theory. Furthermore, a routing protocol is proposed for the transmission of multimedia, which is called FL-GPSR.Simulation scenarios are generated by SUMO and MOVE. By using the simulation environment, the VABE algorithm and FL-GPSR algorithm are simulated. The simulation results show that the VABE algorithm improves the accuracy of the available bandwidth of the VANET. Compared to the PFQ-AODV and GPSR protocols, the FL-GPSR routing protocol has low delay, low packet loss and less routing overhead, which guarantee the transmission quality of the multimedia services. Finally, this paper points out some problems that need to be solved and perfected in the future, accordingly, which leads to the direction of further research and improvement.
