2μm high-repetition-rate and short-pulse-width laser can be widely used in lidar and remote sensing et al. Electro-optical cavity dump technology can obtain output of laser with high repetition rate and narrow pulse width, and has the advantages of high modulation speed and efficiency et al. Therefore the study on electro-optical cavity dump technology of state laser with thulium single-doped medium has certain practical value. Theoretical and experimental research have been applied on electro-optical cavity dump technology of solid-state laser with thulium single-doped medium in this paper. In the part of theory, at first we established the laser rate equations in continuous operation of Tm3+ at room temperature based on the energy level transition and energy transfer process of Tm3+, and simulated the tendency over time that photons inside the cavity changed with the particle of upper-level in the establishment stage of light field. Then, we discussed the influence of switching speed and length of the resonant cavity on the pulse, and discussed the relationship between the cavity-dumping stability and the repetition frequency. In the part of experiment, we designed the resonant cavity according to the ABCD matrix and stability conditions in consideration of the crystal thermal lens, then we completed the electro-optical cavity-dumping experiments of Tm:YAP crystal and Tm:Lu AG crystal. For the Tm:YAP crystal, we have carried out the electro-optical cavity-dumping experiments with long and short cavity. In the experiment of short cavity, the stability of pulse was seriously affected by the heat of RTP crystal caused by the pump laser. To optimized the experimental results, we carried out the experiment of long cavity, and achieved the relative stable pulse laser with average power of 3.02 W, pulse width of 7.1 ns, wavelength of 1996.9 nm. But, high pump power still had a certain influence on the modulation of electro-optic crystal, leading to the pulse got warped at the front-edge.For the Tm:Lu AG crystal, we also have carried out the electro-optical cavitydumping experiments with long and short cavity. In the experiment of long cavity, the resonator became unstable when the repetition frequency was reduced in the case of the high-voltage time was certain. We shortened the cavity in order to keep the cavity stable in a low repetition rate, and achieved the stable pulse laser finally. The maximum average power was 1.22 W with the pulse width of 3.5 ns, and the wavelength of 2012.7 nm.
