WDM technology is the most potential way of a kind of multi channel multiplexingthe in future high-speed optical communication transmission capacity, It can transmit multiple wavelengths of light in a fiber optic signal, and each optical carrier can be achieved by way of FDM and TDM, each bearing multichannel analog or multi-channel digital signal, its basic principle is at the sending end to different wavelengths of light signals are combined, the coupling to the optical fiber cable lines on the same optical fiber transmission, at the receiving end separate combination wavelengths of light, different wavelength of the signal into different terminals. So will the technology, called optical wavelength division multiplexing, optical WDM technology for short. EDFA is the key technology of this wavelength multiplexing system toward practical application, it can be in a couple of terahertz wavelength range offers multiple wavelength of gain at the same time.
