Because the MIMO radar launches orthogonal signals, it can cover airspace rapidly through forming wide beams that has a low gain, improve the performance of anti-interception compared with the traditional phased array radar, and solve problems such as oversize dynamic range in strong clutter background while receiving the signals of weak targets. The bistatic radar separates launching and receiving arrays and shows potential and advantages at countering the stealth aircrafts, low altitude target intruding and electromagnetic interference. Therefore the bistatic MIMO radar emerged with advantages in both MIMO radar and the bistatic radar. In this thesis, target tracking technique of the bistatic MIMO radar is studied, and a method of getting target measurements information and a target tracking method are proposed that both suite the bistatic MIMO radar through system modeling and analysis. By building a complete systematic simulation platform of the bistatic MIMO radar which has functions of echo simulation, signal processing, data processing and so on, the efficiency of the proposed methods and good performance of target location and tracking in the bistatic MIMO radar is proved through simulations. There follow the details:(1). Basic concepts of estimation methods, models of moving objects and tracking filters are introduced which are often used in radar data processing, and specific formula derivations and conditions of usage are also provided.(2). According to the system model and signal model of the bistatic MIMO radar, methods of getting target measurements information are studied, and derivations and computing procedures of residual extraction including distance sum, launching angle and receiving angle are provided in detail. The radar can get target measurements information rapidly which could be used later in target tracking.(3). By studying target tracking technique of the bistatic MIMO radar, Taylor expansion and linear approximation are used to solve non-linear relationships of measurements information and target locations. On this basis, a target tracking method combined with least squares estimation and Kalman filter is provided which can solve the problem of measurements information’s redundancy of the bistatic MIMO radar effectively. By comparison and simulation, effectiveness of the provided method and better target tracking performance are proved compared with phased array model.(4). We built systematic simulation platform of the bistatic MIMO radar, which contained complete procedures of echo simulation, signal processing and data processing; by systematic comprehensive simulations, we proved the feasibility of proposed data processing method and effectiveness of target location and tracking of the bistatic MIMO radar. We also discussed and analysed the factors which affect the target location precision of the bistatic MIMO radar meanwhile.
