Microwave photonic filter technology is modulating the input RF signal to the light signal, and processing the signal in the optical domain. Then, we receive the microwave signals by the optical receiver. And it takes advantage of the light’s low loss, high bandwidth, immunity to electromagnetic interference, supporting high sampling frequency and so on. And then we complete the transmission signal from the optic domain to the electrical domain. This paper mainly describes the microwave photonic filters which based on stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) and achieve simple tuning of its filter bandwidth.Firstly, we introduce the important applications of microwave photonic filters and the important position of SBS effects in microwave photonic filtering briefly. Also it gave an analysis of the mechanism and the theoretical model of SBS in fiber, and introduce us a method of achieving SBS tunable bandwidth filter. Secondly, it built the SBS, microwave photonic filter experimental system of pumping wave and signal wave with semiconductor laser acting as the optical carrier, and gave principle of the system to achieve a single band-pass microwave photonic filtering function. Measured the bandwidth of two kinds of lasers in the laboratory, including the construction of the structure of the measurement, and the measurement method design, compared the effects of two kinds of bandwidth lasers on the SBS filter characteristics, including the SBS frequency shift and filtering characteristics of 2-5GHz. Finally, it studied the basic scheme of the SBS filter bandwidth tuning. By modulating the RF signal to the phase modulator, we generated the frequency comb, and using the comb wave as the pump wave. As changing the value of the RF signal power, we achieved the tuning of SBS filter bandwidth, and we achieving the tuning range of the SBS filter bandwidth of 100MHz by changing the power of the RF signal.
