Laser warning is a warfare technology against the growing threat from the incident laser of laser weapons in military field and give an real-time alarming by detecting the incoming laser, including the wavelength azimuth、the pitch angle and so on. The laser warning technology has been rapidly developed and widely used since1970s. The military powers of the world attach great importance to research and application of laser warning technology, the higher detection accuracy and lower false alarm rate. So it has an important practical significance to conducting the research of laser warning technology.The research and realization of imaging processing algorithms of laser warning system on digital signal processor (DSP) are the primarily content of the paper.The working principle of the laser warning system based on grating has been analysed firstly in this paper and the computational formula of the wavelength, azimuth and pitch of incident laser has been deduced. Then to improve the image signal-to-noise ratio and the precision of calculation, a corresponding filter algorithm is designed according to the noise in the image which is obtained by infrared focal plane array and the characteristic of the noise is analysed according to the application background of laser warning system and the imaging characteristics of infrared focal plane array. Considering the characteristic of the laser warning system based on grating, the image segmentation method based on region growing method is adopt to seperate light spot formed by diffraction. To calculate the center of the spot region, gray weighted centroid algorithm is proposed. Due to the distortion in lens image, correction of coordinate of the spot center is necessary to make the result more accurate. Three judgment criterions are proposed to improve the alarm rate and reduce the false alarm rate for a better judgment of incident laser. Finally, experiments have been made to prove the theory right, calculation of incident laser parameter and error analysis between the real value and calculated result were made by several lasers of different wavelength form1000nm to 1600nm incoming with different azimuth and pitching. Several measures are put forward to improve the algorithms by analyzing the possible causes of error.
