Fiber laser has become a hot topic in the field of lasers since it was developed because of its compact structure, high integration, good stability, good heat dissipation, high output laser beam quality and tunable beam. As the improvement of industrial manufacturing, the demand for the output power of fiber laser is also increasing rapidly.In this thesis, research of high-power fiber laser has been carry out from theory simulation and face cutting experimental aspects.This thesis introduces the advantages of fiber laser and make a simple description of high-power characteristics from both fiber and fiber laser.This thesis introduces the energy level structure and the spectral properties of Yb3+.The basic theory of ytterbium doped fiber laser are studied by using the rate equation as the breakthrough point. Emulation and simulation of the ytterbium doped fiber are carried out in the Matlab. The thesis compares laser output power characteristics of the three pump mode.Characteristics and application method of the LCC-ⅡI A optical fiber cleaver have been introduced in detail. By using the LCC-II A optical fiber cleaver, the fiber cleave experiments was conducted, including the solid core optical fiber and photonic crystal fiber. The best method of cutting optical fiber has been concluded by observing the quality of the fiber end face.
