| Homeschooling, similarly be named home-based education or home education, is defined as a personalized education approach which allows parents and homeschooling teachers to educate school-age-children at home or in non-school place near home.The rise of homeschooling education in the United States began since 1950 s with a grand trend of homeschooling movement. To optimize the quality of school education, America people tried to pursuit higher quality and more personalized education methods. Under that historical background, American society advocated a brand new form of education. John Holt, the founding father of Homeschooling Theory, became the leader of homeschooling education based on his advanced theories and ideologies. This massive homeschooling movement went through a lot of up and down, and even had confrontations with national education law before acquiring legal status eventually. With the expanding amounts of schools, homeschooling has been gradually accepted by people in the United States. According to statistics, as of 2010, the number of homeschooling student has reached 2.04 million, which takes parts of 2.9% of total school-age-student in country. More importantly, the number of homeschooling institute increases by 15% annually.As a form of education which is different from traditional school education, homeschooling has the following comparative features: personalization of educating content, diversity of educating method, abundance of education resource, and flexibility of teaching places. Meanwhile, according to United States national examination Center data, it is shown that homeschooling students get higher scores in the SAT exam than students in traditional school, which means homeschooling students would receive better quality of education. Those obvious advantages make homeschooling in the United States develop quickly.In addition, the operating mechanism and guarantee mechanism of homeschooling make its long-term and sustainable development. As mention of operating mechanism, diversified selecting sources of teaching material, strict standard of tutor’s identification, personalized set-up of curriculum, partnership between homeschooling and public school are all contributing to home schooling’s great development. As mention of guarantee mechanism, the sound system makes sustainable educating activities with high quality. Besides, governmental policy supporting, social organization supports also play important roles in guarantee mechanism. In summary, since its birth of homeschooling, through continued optimizing effort on management, homeschooling system becomes mature after legalization. Education management has close relation with education work. This research will conclude the specific features of operating and guarantee mechanism of homeschooling in the United Sates through details analyst of those mechanisms. Furthermore, combining current education situation of China, the research will reach the conclusion that Chinese education management needs to expand the right of choosing diversified approaches of education, establish long-term cooperative mechanism between families and schools, optimize the framework of law and regulations regarding homeschooling, and enhance the quality of online education. All of those suggestions have practical guiding affects on Chinese education.This paper is divided into four chapters. Chapter one is about the United States homeschooling introduction, which summarizes its history, analyzes the quantity and quality of the current homeschooling, and summarizes the features of the homeschooling. Chapter Two gives analysis of operating mechanism of homeschooling in the United States, mainly from key parts, educating methods, contents and relations between homeschooling and public schools. Chapter Three discusses United States guarantee mechanism analysis of the homeschooling, including system guarantee, social institute support, education resource protection and quality guarantee. Chapter Four summarizes United States homeschooling experience compared with China’s current basic education, and points out that China’s current education problems in the operating and guarantee mechanism, and concludes relative solution and suggestions at the end of research. |
