| N. S. Prabhu came up with a learning-centered teaching approach in the1980s.This theory has set up a favorable foundation for studying the task-based learning andthe task-based teaching. The goal of task-based learning theory is to finish task, andstudents can learn language by means of applying language in the process of completingtask. The task-based learning theory emphasizes that the student is the core of theactivities and the student must participate in activities. Thus the student can enhance hislanguage competence. The task-based learning theory has played an important role inboosting students’ learning efficiency.In China, some scholars have studied the task-based learning; however, theresearch on the task-based English learning in senior middle schools is not a few. As thetask-based learning theory emphasizes that students can learn language by means ofapplying language in the process of completing task, thus the task-based learning theorycan improve the students’ learning initiative in senior middle schools effectively,cultivate their innovation ability and boost their learning efficiency in senior middleschools well. Henceforth, it is very necessary to apply the task-based learning theory tothe students’ English learning in senior middle schools.Reading learning is a significant part of English learning. Thus it is an importanttask of English teaching to improve students’ reading ability. This thesis applies the task-based learning theory to English reading in senior middle schools in the teachingprocess, and aims at cultivating the students’ interest of English reading, improving theirEnglish reading competence and finally enhancing the whole English competence ofsenior middle school students.There are three main parts in this thesis. The first part presents the literaturereview. The second part presents the basic ideas of task-based learning theory. The thirdpart discusses the application of the task-based learning theory to English reading insenior middle schools. It contains principles, implication, significance and limitation.By discussing the problems of English reading learning in senior middle schools, theauthor hopes that it can arouse more consideration about English reading learning andprovide some enlightenment for improving English reading learning efficiency of seniormiddle school students. |
