Language Endangerment And Community Response

Under the background of the rapid development of globalization and modernization, cultural diversity and language ecological protection is an important globalization research topic, especially the minority endangered languages needed more concern. Language endangerment is an important discussion towards language development and protection under the concept of cultural diversity, both related to the ecological balance of language resources, and the development of national cultural. Because the language problem is closely related to such aspects as culture, economic development, endangered languages is not only involves a single subject, but involves multiple disciplines. For this reason, this article will take the Salars of a small population as an example. Based on the investigation to the use of salar language, this paper discusses the issue of endangered languages, and community responses.Salar, lives in the northwest of China, is one of the 28 ethnic groups with small populations. As an important distinguish symbol with Hui, salar language is an important cultural events. Right now, the economy and lifestyle of salar gradually diversified. Under the frequent contact with others, the salar language, including pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar, are affected to varying, and some changes have taken place. The attitude of native speakers also has changed a lot than before. Selected salar language as a typical one, this paper, based on the definition of endangered language and the community response towards such problem, trying to explore the development of China’s endangered languages and the language of ethnic groups with small populations, then advocating the protection of cultural diversity, to balance language ecology.The basic research methods of this study is a combination of ethnology and linguistics, to study the problem of endangered languages and community responses. By using the questionnaire and interview method, we discussed the changes of language functions, language attitude and language structure in salar language; Second, by using the field data, this paper analyzes and summarizes people’s different attitude towards this problem. And make a comparison against foreign community responses to discuss the development of endangered languages and community response.Salar and Turkmenistan have origin relations in history, there are a lot of similarities between them, such as culture and customs. The construction of “New Silk Road”, provide new development opportunities to Salar, some experts and scholars advocate the Salar should be regarded as the bridge of the China and central Asia. Thus, the development and protection of salar language, will also be useful to language revitalization in our country. In addition, the selection of community response as a theme, is an innovation of research contents; The combination of multiple research methods is another innovation on the research methods.In the present, our country make efforts to realize the great renaissance of the nation, enhance national cultural soft power, and building a harmonious ethnic relations. We should concern language revitalization from a multiple perspective, especially those minority language problem and the development of endangered languages. We need to explore the language development rule, and think about the trend of the development of language, to protect the rights of national language, and develop language protection planning. This article own a certain theoretical and practical significance.
