The British Concept Of Li Hungchang

This article mainly write Li Hong-zhang inspected series of processes and activities including dealed with related events, understood British economy, military, education, knowledge and related practices,traveled to Britain, making a thorough inquiry about the formation of Li’s British concept, the development and exacerbation. The author thinks Li’s British concept was maily from indirect ways and means before 1894,but Li paying visit to Britain made him contact with British politics, economic, military and culture by direct ways and means in 1896.This paper is divided into three parts:The first part, mainly write the formation of Li hungchang’s British concept. During the Taiping movement, Li contacted many British people including Gordon by establishing and dissolving the Ever Victorious Army, killing surrenders in Suzhou and Osborn Fleet.Not only understanding the advancement of military technology and weaponry of British, but also made a further understanding of Britain tried to expanding the interests in China by taking control of the Ever Victorious Army.The second part, mainly write the development of Li hungchang’s British concept. In the period of Westernization Movement, Li recognized British matur e economy, powerful navy and advanced naval education by previous works,ne wspapers,translation works and ministes to Britain.The mature economy depend ed on heavy industries and military industries,additional, the popularity of telegr aph and railroad were important guarantee of British economy.Powerful navy n ot only required the support of advanced naval theories,but also backed by the full power of the ships. In order to train the Northern Navy,Li also emphasise d on the introduction of British naval officers to help train soldiers, in this pro cess, the soldiers would be enhanced quality and management, meanwhile the c ontradictions between China and Britain in the military command also deepen. Li thought that the Britain navy can cultivate outstanding navy talents,lied in n avy education emphasis on linking theories with practices.This mode primarily t hrough combining schools and ship drills.The third part, mainly write the exacerbation of Li hungchang’s British concept. Li visited to Britain in 1896, in the course of the visit, Li mainly inspected British policy, culture and education, public facility and industrial construction. Public services industry focuses on British banks, railroads, telegraph industries. Li also recognized the developed British industry by visiting British heavy industries and military industries.
