During the cold war, Burma had important significance on the foreign strategy of China and US.Burma was an important way for China to break the America’s blockade against China. In Burma, America sought to contain China. Both of them struggled for Burma. After the Western Pacific collective defense system shaped, Chinese began to implement the foreign policy of peace and develop the relationship between China and Burma. America tried to influence Burma’s foreign policy by offering economic and political assistance. The relations between China, America and Burma had experienced different change. From 1949 to 1960,Burma was friendly to both of China and United States. But in 1961to 1963 years, the situation was changed. This paper focuses on the period of 1961 to 1963 when Burma kept to be friendly to China, but to be bad to the U.S.The thesis consists of four parts, including the preface, the text body, the epilogue and the bibliography. And the text body has four sections. The Preface includes the reasons for choosing title, the support, the current state, the basis, basic thoughts, some new ideas and shortcoming of the research. The first section of the text body describes Burma’s Geopolitical value, which became more important because of America’s ring of encirclement. Special geographical position made Burma important to both America and China. This section lays the foundations for other chapters. The second section of the text body reviews the relationship between China, USA and Burma, which pays the way for the next chapter.By researching the Burma’s Foreign policy, we can see that Burma treated America and China equally from 1949 to 1960.From the time point of view, the relationship between America, China and Burma presented a characteristic that Burma was friendly to U.S. and China simultaneously. The third section is the focal point of the text body. The 1961 to 1963 was the transitional period of the relations between America, China and Burma. America began to support neutral policy, but America didn’t base on it to get on with Burma. America’s policy toward Burma continued to contain the so-call Chinese expansion, which was rigid and ruined the relations between U.S. and Burma. Chinese diplomatic policy started to become left-leaning, but Chinese took a pragmatic approach to handle the relations with Burma. The bilateral relations between Burma and China developed further. According to the different foreign policies and different measures of China and America towards Burma, also based on the different diplomacy of Burma towards China and America, this chapter draws a conclusion:Burma was more friendly to China than to America. The forth section is difficult point of the text body. The paper mainly uses analytic hierarchy process to analyze the reasons why the relations between China, America and Burma were different. The thesis utilizes analytic hierarchy process to analyze and discuss the personal reasons, the national reason and the system reason. At the end of this section, the paper gives its revelation about the relations between China, America and Burma that it is the cooperation between China, America and Burma that can ensure Burma’s own interests and Chinese and American interests in Burma. At the end of the dissertation, the author summarizes and refines the idea of the paper, points out the inadequacies of the paper and gives some suggestions on the further study of this topic.
