The Morrison Education Society founded in 1835 at Guangzhou by missionaries and merchants. It was build under the historical background of a new round Western Learning activities which launched by the Western missionaries in early 19 th century. Soon after the establishment of the Society, the Morrison School started and systematically brought in the Western education philosophy and corresponding teaching modes. Followed the example of the Morrison School, the missionary societies all around China set up missionary schools which then had a large impact on the Chinese traditional education system and fostered a great many of new talents. The Annual Reports of the Society are valuable because they truthfully and precisely recorded the Chinese education status and the running of schools during that particular time. The Reports are special in style, accurate in words, varied in sentences and logical in discourse, which enabled them perfect texts for translation practice.Under the guidance of Newmark’s text type analysis, the author analyzed the translation of long sentences with following translation techniques: syntactic linearity, inversion, division and synthetic translation. By actively verifying the historical data, can the events and terms be translated accurately; by nimbly using the translation techniques, can long sentences in informative annual reports be translated properly; by optimizing the translation, could the author provide a reference for further research on this subject.
