| With the increasingly close communication between China and the outside world,China needs to illustrate its fine culture to the outside world while the outside world is in need of ways to better understand China. As essential components of Chinese culture, traditional Chinese festivals and traditional culture are necessary ways for people to know more about Chinese culture. In view of this, this thesis chooses to study one episode about Duanwu Festival from Our Festivals, a TV feature programme. We hope it could provide some food for thought to interpreting practice concerning traditional Chinese festivals.Interpretation is an intercultural communicative behavior; making communication purposes clear and trying to achieve them are of vital importance in intercultural communication. Skopos theory provides the theoretical basis for the present case analysis. The three principles of skopos theory are important guidance for interpreters to follow so as to make communication purposes clear, achieve intratextual coherence in target language and intertextual faithfulness between source language and target language. From the perspective of skopos theory, this thesis discusses its application in the C-E consecutive interpretation of the feature program Our Festivals(excerpt) and the reflections on it. It first analyzes difficulties in interpretation, which are classified into two kinds: language-structure related difficulties and culturally related difficulties. Then solutions before, in and after the interpretation are put forward respectively. Following that, all the suggested principles and strategies are illustrated with examples. The conclusion part summarizes the whole thesis and expresses the anticipation for more people to join in the research and spreading of traditional Chinese culture. |
