This thesis builds multiple linear regression models based on the data of Systematic Regional Survey in southeastern Shandong from1995-2007, to analyze correlations between distribution of sites in the surrounding area of Liangchengzhen Site and potential factors that could influence the distribution. The thesis then interprets the results of mathematical analysis, and concludes the distribution pattern of the sites in research area. At last, a comparative study is made between the distribution pattern of the sites in research area and other cases of both China and aboard to test the theory of chiefdom and its problems during the applications in Chinese Archaeology. The whole thesis is divided into six parts. The Introduction concerns about the cause of selecting of the topic, as well as research histories about the topic. It also introduces the object and methods of the research. In the second part of thesis the author introduces the research background of Longshan Culture in southeastern Shandong; then the research area is determined by Thiessen polygon method. In the end of this part, the author summarizes the modern environment of the research area and the research achievements of ancient environmental restoration. The key part of the thesis is the construction of the multiple linear regression models. This part discusses the whole process of the modeling, from sample selection to preliminary analysis of the results of the models. Meanwhile, the author also focuses on the effect of Archaeological data on the credibility of models, as well as the countermeasures. The following part is further study based on the models by classifying the sample according to their scales, and tests the differences between the two groups. It also includes some applications of the models to predict the missed information of the sites during the Systematic Regional Survey. The fifth part is the extension of the previous parts. It summarizes the distribution pattern of the research area with the help of models. It also makes a comparative study between this area and other cases. Finally, the author makes a discussion in depth about the problems of theory of chiefdom during its applications in Chinese Archaeology. The last part is conclusions. Besides the conclusions mentioned above, the author also focues on the advantage of mathematics modeling method in Archaeological research, and its potential in the future studies.
