By literature textual research and historical comparison, this paper analyses the classical rhyming dictionaries of northern Mandarin in Ming and Qing Dynasties. In the paper, characters in three initial systems of zhi, zhuang, zhang are settled in tabular form, then they are compared with characters in rhyming dictionary Zhongyuanyinyun so as to find out these three initial systems’merging and separation in phonetic phylogeny, especially in Ming and Qing dynasties.First, the author classes the documents into Ming dynasty and Qing dynasty by time order. In each part, the author makes extracts of characters in three initial systems of zhi, zhuang, zhang from several rhyming dictionaries including Jiaoliao mandarin, Jilu mandarin, Beijing mandarin and Dongbei mandarin. Next, the author chooses several classical rhyming dictionaries of northern Mandarin in Ming and Qing dynasties to be material. Through classifying and analyzing, the author finally finds out the evolution law and tendency of these three initial systems.After researching, the author finds out that the characters in three initial systems of zhi, zhuang, zhang in Ming and Qing dynasties are different with them in Zhongyuanyinyun. What is more, the evolution tendency of these three initial systems turns out to be merging as a whole.
