Objectives To treat the dentition defect with periodontitis with three restoration treatment methods: removable partial denture, fixed bridge and telescope splint, observing the result to instruct clinics.Method Selecting eight patients with dentition defect and periodontitis those see a doctor in Dalian Stomatological Hospital from January 2014 to December 2014. It is required that the teeth mobility degree is less than three and the absorption of the alveolar bone performance in the X-ray is less than two-thirds of the root length. Before the restoration treatment, we should examine the intraoral teeth carefully, treat the dental pulp diseases, and extract the teeth those are meaningless. In addition, the periodontal non-surgical treatment and necessary surgical periodontal therapy should be operated to control the periodontal tissue lesions. Taking the detail situation of the cases, the requirements and the financial capacity of the patients into consideration, we chose the appropriate method to different cases: removable partial denture, fixed bridge or telescope splint. Two cases are treated by the removable partial denture at the patients’ request, five cases are treated by the fixed bridge, and one case is treated by the telescope splint whose alveolar absorption is serious and that the cost can be afford. After the restoration treatment, the patients should have the oral hygiene education and return visit to the doctor on time to examine the teeth and the restorations. At the same time, the cases should have the necessary periodontal treatment.Result The eight cases return visit in six to twelve months, which are satisfied with not only the appearance and the comfort of the restorations but also the mastication function and the retention of them. The fixed bridge and telescope splint have a better effect than the third one in the aspect of the appearance, the comfort, the mastication and the retention of them. There are no pains in the abutment teeth and less movability in clinic. Conclusion All of the three restoration methods to treat the dentition defect with periodontitis are able to obtain satisfied clinical effect. They can not only fix the loosen teeth but also repair the dentition defect effectively to restore good masticatory function. We could choose the proper restoration method for different patient according to the specific circumstance. The telescope splint which can reserve teeth furthest is appropriate for the cases whose loss of the alveolar bone is serious. This method is not only in favor of the maintaining of the periodontium health but also satisfied with the mastication function and the appearance. However, it has a very complicated production process and an expensive cost. The design of the removable partial denture which has a wide range of application should concentrate on the chosen and the design of the retainer which requires no pressure to the abutment teeth and no harmful effect to the maintaining of the abutment teeth’s cleaning. The cases of light and moderate periodontal with dentition defect can be treated by the method of fixed bridge. In terms of the masticatory efficiency and the appearance of the restoration, the method of telescope splint and fixed bridge is better than the third one. What calls for special attention is that the restoration margins position of the abutment teeth must be above the gingival margin in order to avoid the cleaning of the restoration’s margin and cause more serious periodontal tissue injures. Furthermore, the maintaining of the oral hygiene exerts a great influence on the effect of the restoration. Therefore, the oral hygiene education and return visit to the doctor on time to examine the teeth and the restorations as well as the periodontal treatment is important.
