Objective: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of pedicle screw fixation through the pedicle of fractured vertebra in the treatment of the thoracolumbar fractures of single segment. Methods: A total of 23 patients with thoracolumbar fractures treated at our department between January 2013 and June 2014 were retrospectively studied. The fractured vertebral is between T11 to L2, the patient’s age is between 26 to 59 years old, The average age is 47.8 years old, all the patients received the Surgery operation on within 10 days, which is implantation of pedicle-screws both in fractured vertebra and its upper and lower vertebra. To observe the efficacy, include Short-term postoperative complications, the ratio of Vertebral height and Cobb angle, the Recovery of neurological function, this data were statistically analyzed. Results: 23 cases were followed up for 4 to 15 months, the average time is 8.5 months, All patients were not severe complications in the short term (4 to 15 months), there were not Pedicle screw breakage and Internal fixation loosening at Last follow-up, the vertebral height ratios which were measured in postoperative and final follow-up is significantly improved compared with Preoperative, The difference were statistically significant (p<0.05), the Cobb angles which were measured in postoperative and final follow-up is significantly improved compared with Preoperative, The difference were statistically significant (p<0.05), Two indicators of last follow-up are slight rebound than postoperative, but the difference were not statistically significant (p>0.05), the Neurological function of most patients were Partially recovery. Conclusion:The pedicle screw fixation through fractured vertebra is effective in the treatment of the thoracolumbar fractures of single segment, it Can effectively restore vertebral height and correct Kyphosis, and Maintain correction effect, it is low incidence of screw rod fracture, it is safe and effective method to the thoracolumbar fractures.
