With the rapid development of China’s productive forces, the demand for healthy and comfortable outdoor space environment is gradually growing. The urban square as the most used space for outdoor activities, assembly or visiting for citizens. It is particularly important for people that have a suitable square environment.Studying the relationship between urban square space and microclimate has significance for guiding to designing and constructing the spaces.Fothermore, it is help to improve the environmental quality of public activity and enhance the standard of living. In this paper, the square of The Wild Goose Pagoda as my object of study. Detailly,I’ll focus on studing microclimate of the South Square of the Wild Goose Pagoda from these aspects: site investigation, observed behavior annotation and field data.In order to obtain the user’s behavioral pattern, type of activity and various types of spatial data of microclimate. Finally, theoretical research and quantitative research will be used to compare and analyse.First, the paper starts to analyse the basic theory of urban public space, the concept of micro-climate, bioclimatic field and human comfort. These basic concepets will help to understand the Square microclimate.Secondly, the paper selects the South part of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda Square because it is the most representative outdoor city square space in XI’AN. The square will be noted as winter and summer, human behavior characteristics, type of activity and the preferences of place. It also will be divided in several small units as distribution of surrounding buildings, landscape elements composition ratio, ground water, surface heatflux spatial distribution patterns, types of human activity. Quantitative analysis is used in climate factors air temperature, humidity, wind speed and other conditions under spatial unit variation in space and time. All above may get the way to design the Urban Square Space microclimate adaptation of XI’AN.Finally, the paper deduces the method of designing small-climate adaptation planning from five aspects:terrain, water, pavement, plants and buildings. Combining the results of behavioral observations, the paper will get the result of the Square Design Planning is most suitable in summer and winter.
