Nan Chang is a famous city boasted both for its cultural heritage and its long history. As early as three thousand years ago, a resident community was formed by the earlier Nanchang inhabitants, which streching from Ai Xi Lake in the north to Qing Yu Pu Zone in the south. Seated in the south of Yangzi River, and due to a convenient waterway transportation, Nanchang was eulogized as "The three rivers enfold it like the front part of a garment and the five lakes encircles it like a girdle".The famous scholar Wang Bo also once described Nanchang as a city whose talented people are outstanding and the spirit of intelligence prevades, both for its natural landform in various surface features and cultural elements, such as scenic spots, historical streets, revolutionary relics. Thus, a combination of natural and cultural elements is the typical regional landscape feature of Nanchang.With a speeding up in the procession of modernization, cities in China have taken a brand-new look since the beginning of reform and opening up. The strategy of economic and cultural integration is sweeping across the country. China’s urbanization erodes the architectural and landscape features of Nanchang during its procession, and the original regional features is gradually lost. So how to inherit and develop the regional features in the process of urban construction and planning are the main problem the landscape designers face.Based upon the analysis of the regional characteristics of Nanchang, assisted by a series of related disciplines like architectural design, urban planning, environmental psychology, etc., Nanchang urban landscape constituents and regional features are clearly elaborated. Connotation of Nanchang urban landscape characteristics are also revealed by means of literature collection and field visits, so as to tackle the problems concerning modern landscape and urban landscape characteristic quality.
