Steel-Reinforced Concrete Structure is a of structure perfectly coupled by steel andconcrete. Steel-reinforced concrete column has earned broadly use and further development.As the main load bearing and lateral force resistance members, its seismic performance anddeformance capacity have a direct impact on the safety of the whole structure. The ChineseCode for sesimic design of buildings, in its present form of GB50011-2010, has no explicitdeformance limits of the SRC columns when performance-based design method is involved.This kind of design method is not quantized yet, resulting in the impossibility when evaluatingthe performance state of the columns under different sesimic excitation. As a result, there liesnecessity in research on the deformance limits of the SRC columns.Based on the researches done by scholars both at home and aboard, with the help of finiteelement software ABAQUS, this papter studies the seismic performance and the deformancelimits of SRC columns. The main contents of the paper are as follows:(1) Gives a brief retrospect on the development of performance based design method andthe steel-reinforced concrete structures, collects data on SRC columns experiment done byresearchers both at home and abroad, analyzes influncing factors on the failure forms. Besides,this paper also uses ABAQUS to get numerical simulation results to compare with theexperiment data.(2) Explores the classification method on the failure forms of the SRC columns. Analyzesthe failure forms of143columns, obtains the classification method using flexural shear ratio,shear span ratio and stirrup ratio. Analysis results indicate that this method will give a prettyaccurate prediction on the failure form of the SRC columns.(3) With the reference of the exsiting materials, six failure states are given to describe thedamage state of the SRC columns, namely, intactness, slightly broken, light medium broken,medium broken, severe broken and invalid. Macroscopic descripition of the six state is alsolisted in the paper.(4) Analyzes283SRC columns using the numerical simulation method. The factors studied includes shear span ratio, axial compression ratio, flange steel ratio, web steel ratio,reinforcement ratio, stirrupratio, flexual shear ratio. Together with the performance states given,this paper summarizes the state limits of SRC columns, which can be a reference in theperformance-based design method.
