Rare earth elements as a special kind of inorganic ions, with excellent optical, electrical and magnetic properties, lanthanide-based organic-inorganic hybrid materials have attracted a great deal of attention for decades. Lanthanide ions, especially EuIII and TbIII ions, after coordinated with organic ligands which can show strong fluorescence emission, and its complexes have attracted extensive attention by their diverse applications in lighting, display, automobiles, transportation, imaging, fluorescence detection and sensor. Rare earth ions have unique 4f electronic configuration, and coordinated with organic ligand, which have remarkable physical and chemical properties by the influence of the antenna effect. In this paper, a series of lanthanide coordination polymers are synthesized by organic ligands and lanthanide ions, and obtained their single crystal structures, and explored their structure and luminescence properties in detail. This thesis is divided into four parts:1. The background of this work is concisely introduced with photoluminescence mechanism of luminescent rare earth complexes and the emphasis on the current study of luminescent rare earth complexes. Research objective and significance are clarified.2. Three isostructural 2D lanthanide coordination polymers of in situ formed nitrilotriacetic anion(NTA3-) have been hydrothermally synthesized with N-(2-carbamoylmethyl) iminodiacetic acid(H2ADA) as starting material. The photoluminescence properties as well as the energy-transfer behavior of the resulted coordination polymers are studied in detail. Base on tricolor theory, the optical properties of compounds can be easily tuned by doping methods, allowing for the syntheses of the materials with enhanced visible emission properties. Considering the intense blue-emission of the Gd(III) compounds, it is expected that white light can be achieved by doping Tb(III) and Eu(III), white-light emission was successfully achieved.3. A new semirigid exo-bidentate ligand,1,4-bis{[(2?-picolylaminoformyl)phenoxyl]methyl}-2,5-bismethylbenzene(L) was designed, synthesized, and used as building blocks for constructing luminescent lanthanide polymers. The luminescence properties of EuIII complexes are discussed in detail.4. We have synthesized different rare earth coordination polymers by podand ligand. The complexes were well characterized, the luminescence properties of the related complex were discussed in detail. The result presented herein has an definite significance to the research field of rare earth luminescent materials.
