At present, the information construction of our country is striding forward to be in line with the world’s advanced level. In the field of surveying and mapping, to get the time-effective information data of terrain and make maps on this basis without delay turn out to be one of the most important works. Thus the choice of the mapping technique makes difference particularly. The aerial photogrammetry, indisputably, is a significant way to get the geographic information quickly at present. But limited by some characters of traditional photogrammetry technology, such as the sensitive reliance on airport and weather conditions, high cost, and longer time cycles for the photography, appliance of the digital photogrammetry technology is confined in the large-scale mapping. The remote sensing satellite platforms, with the fixed pathway, the overhead-time is settled every day and timeliness turns out to be poor. To boot, the data acquisition of periodic is quits long, thus the implement emergency observation is imposable. Manned spacecraft, notwithstanding, is immune to the restriction of the pathway problem, but considering the security reasons, under bad weather conditions, however, the aircraft often cannot launch and carry out the work timely. Other Technique, like microwaveremotesensing, is free for the impact of the cloud and the weather conditions, but in the practical application, it can’t completely replace the position of visible light and infrared remote sensing for the detection principle difference. Beside, the cost of traditional aerospace remote sensing image data acquisition is much higher, which impedes its development in a wider range of application fields. As to the manual surveying and mapping,a great cost of human and material resources but a sluggish result is inescapable. Moreover, the terrain factors can easily affect the conduction of the surveying and mapping.UAV Photogrammetry is a new technology between the traditional space remote sensing and the geological survey. Its appearance makes up for the shortage of traditional surveying and mapping, which is able to get the ground datum clearly within a short time and provides adequate supports for the topographic map drawing and the establish of DEM. Since most UAV belong to the low-altitude aircraft, thus, they are free for the influence of clouds. Besides, the approval procedures for flight is easier to get from relevant departments to guarantee the preciseness and freshness of figures used. With the smaller volume and team of workers, the scene changes of surveying and mapping is allowed at any time to guarantee the maneuverability and to save manpower and material resources greatly. This paper analyzes the domestic and foreign development status of UAV system, combining the features of unmanned aerial system, according to the specific case, comprehensive study of the application of unmanned systems in engineering surveying and mapping in linear. The article mainly studies the following aspects:(1)The basic hardware structure and the working process of unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) on the application of aerial surveying.(2) The analysis of the resolution for aerial triangulation of three methods of adjustment as well as the advantages and disadvantages. And the mathematical model is also carried out here.(3)The investigation of several calibration methods of UAV sensors and a comparison is also given in this part.(4)Combined with the author’s working experiences for the road channel selection in the city of Fukang, Xinjiang Province, the author, in detail, describes the actual measurement method of UAV for application, provides the measurement results, and can draw the following conclusions: The accuracy of UAV photogrammetry technology in highway surveying can completely meet the mapping need : the proportion of 1-1000. Both the images and the produced DEM can be obtained clearly and detailed. The measurement method can be available to be put into use.
