How to solve the problem of "agriculture, rural areas and farmers" is an importantproposition which is related to our national economy and people’s livelihood. The centralcommittee of the communist party of China have released the NO.1file as the theme of"agriculture, rural areas and farmers" from1982to1986and from2004to2013.Because farmersare the heart of the problem of "agriculture, rural areas and farmers", so improving the farmers’income and narrowing the gap between rich and poor is the first to solve the problem of farmers. There are the differences among the features of rural geography environment, cultural relics andeconomic development level in different regions, which lead to the rural income gap is too big andinhibit the coordinated development of regional economy at the same time. Therefore, it isimminent to improve the income inequality among the China’s rural residents. On the basis of existing research, this paper researches the income inequality of the China’srural residents from the empirical perspective. The paper applies the method of the coefficient ofpopulation-weighted variation for research. First of all, it researches the overall inequalitycondition of the China’s rural residents and the inequality features of the rural residents among theeastern region, the middle region, the western region and the northeast region. Secondly, throughthe spatial decomposition and source of income decomposition on the coefficient of population-weighted variation, it respectively studies the space and revenue factors how to impact theincome inequality of the China’s rural residents within the regions and between the regions and thecombined effect how to impact the income inequality of the China’s rural residents. Studies havefound that the rural residents’ income inequality of the eastern region is most obvious, followed bythe western region, the middle region and the northeast region. In recent years, the rural residents’income inequality of the eastern region, the middle region and the northeast region declines, whilethe rural residents’ income inequality in the western region has risen. From the perspective of space, the income inequality of the China’s rural residents betweenthe regions is greater than within the regions. From the perspective of the source of income, wageincome contributes to the income inequality of China’s rural residents more and more largely. Thesecond is the income from household business, and the third is the property income. The last istransfer income. In addition, the contribution of wage income and income from household business to the rural residents’ income inequality between the regions is larger than within theregions. But the influence of property income and transfer income is not sure. From thecombination of space and revenue factors, on the one hand, the rural residents’ income regionalinequality in China comes from the rural residents’ income inequality within regions and betweenregions; On the other hand, the rural residents’ income by acting on the rural residents’ incomeinequality of the eastern region, the middle region, the western region, the northeast region andbetween regions affects the income inequality of the China’s rural residents.
