In the process of urban growth and its space reconstruction in China, the spatial relationship between residence and workplace has evolved from the "Home-work Together" into "Home-work Separation". With the rapid development of economy, it is becoming increasingly diverse for people’s choice of living and work space and the way to commute. With the degree of the separation between jobs and residential locations, increasing, a series of problems like traffic congestion and environmental damage have raised, especially the intensified PM2.5problem in recent years, which has attracted great attention. As the inevitable result of the separation between jobs and residential locations, Commuter is an important link to contact the composition of urban and an important study field of the relationship of jobs and housing and the urban structure. It is significant both in theory and in practice to probe the spatial structure feature of the separation between jobs and residential locations, from the perspective of commuting behavior based on geography experiments, and to simulate the process of spatial structural change in "Home-work Separation" in Beijing, which is from the microscopic individual perspective. From the perspective of commuting behavior, the paper explored the change and characteristic of the spatial structure feature of "Home-work Separation" in Beijing during the recent five years. The impact of transport and housing factors on the relationship between residence and workplace was simulated with multi-agent technology. The conclusions are the following:(1)There were some changes on the main factors of spatial structure of urban residents jobs-housing and types of street in Beijing. The former changed greatly, while non-motorized vehicle trips in short-range was steady relatively; the latter changed slightly, the streets dominated by car trips in medium-range changed into the ones in long range.(2) The pattern of separation between jobs and residential locations became intensively in Beijing. The commuting time was lengthened and the separation between jobs and residential locations became intensively. From the perspective of spatial structure of separation between jobs and residential locations, the streets dominated by short-range non-motorized commuting decreased; the ones being dominant by medium-range bus commuting increased; the amount of car commuting and rail commuting was under an increasing trend, and the streets with excessive separation between jobs and residential locations were also under an increasing trend.(3) The spatial structure pattern of separation between jobs and residential locations changed significantly. The gathering distribution of streets close to jobs and residential locations which were dominant by short-range non-motorized commuting transformed from the east to northwestern. The amount of separation between jobs and residential locations being dominant by long-range bus commuting, car commuting and rail commuting was under an increasing trend. The spatial distribution of them was from "small gathering" to "disperse gathering".(4) Combined with collected literature and the result findings, the factors for the spatial change of jobs and residential locations were analyzed from the macro and individual perspective respectively. The macro factors included urbanization, transportation environment, land prices; while the individual factors included age, education, household income, family structure.(5) The application of multi-agent simulation on the study of relations between jobs and residential locations was explored. As a new approach in the field of experimental geography, with a great advantage in terms of simulation and investigate the mechanism of the process, it is suitable for study of relations between jobs and residential locations.
