| This is a project on translation of A New Politics of Identity, written by BhikhuParekh, contemporary political philosopher and multi-cultural theorist. Parekhelaborates understanding as well as exploration of the new politics of identity. Thenthis report is based on the second chapter “The Concept of Identity†in which theauthor divides the identity into three dimensions: personal identity, social identity andhuman identity, which are given perspectives on each. The discussion of difficultiesduring translation and corresponding strategies in this report benefits from translationpractice and appreciation of domestic scholar’s related views. In the interest ofachieving faithfulness regarding content, language and literal style of the sourcelanguage, two translation strategies consisting of domestication and equivalenttranslation are used to cope with difficulties in translating “identity†and derivativewords. |
