After entering the21st century with the advent of computer era, automobile industry as an one hundred year industry is also being constantly injected vigor and vitality. Last decade, dimensional engineering obtained a big development penetrating many areas of automotive manufacturing. At the same time, our automobile manufacturing enterprises obtain a rapid development on the basis of domestic huge market potential beginning to release. Facing the reality of poor foundation, Chinese people introduce the advanced ideas of Europe, the United States, Japan and Korea, combine with own design and manufacture ability to apply reasonably then gradually set up the dimensional engineering system which can serve the research and quality control of new vehicle model well. It narrows the gap with the world advanced automobile manufacturing level, lets domestic independent brand car get rid of image of mediocre design and poor quality and makes a solid foundation for domestic independent brand being bigger and stronger.Dimensional engineering is to make interaction among product design, process and quality control. It makes product requirement (such as size specification, RPS etc.) decompose successively to subassembly and one-piece, establishes GD&T and measurement plan as carrier of engineering communication and provides basis of quality management of design and production. Using dimensional engineering tools (such as computer virtual simulation, statistics theory etc.) at the early stages of product design to analyze and optimize initial design can make the industrial product have better reliability and manufacturability.In vehicle design and manufacturing process, dimensional engineering on body in white can be divided into dimensional tolerance design and dimensional tolerance control. Dimensional tolerance design includes making dimensional technical specification (DTS), reference point system (RPS), tolerance design and optimization of parts and generating parts GD&T drawing. Dimensional tolerance control includes making measuring points file and measurement plan, planning gauge and other measuring equipment, prototype trial production test, car body data collection and analysis after mass production and continuous quality improvement.This thesis is based on’2mm’ project which the author participated during the period of internship. With the combination of theory and practice, it introduces the work of each stage of dimensional engineering according to the time sequence of new model process and makes specific research about dimensional engineering application in domestic automobile design and manufacture. The main work in this thesis is:(1) From tolerance integration in design, manufacture, assembly and quality control point of view, it presents the system framework of dimensional engineering.(2) Based on one new vehicle model development, it conducts research in main work of dimensional tolerance design including making dimensional technical specification, designing reference point system, setting stamping parts tolerance and generating GD&T drawing.(3) With the method of combining theory and practice, it makes research on deviation measurement and quality control in automobile manufacture including measuring point file and measurement plan making, dimension monitoring, data analysis and deviation diagnosis analysis.(4) With a new model tail tolerance analysis as example, it uses3DCS to do deviation analysis of DTS on vehicle tail area, processes and analyzes data of result.
