With the development of electric railway, especially with the promotion and the operation of high-speed railway, as an important evaluation index—the pantograph-catenary arc, its impacts on the safety and reliability of high-speed train operation are getting more and more attention. Due to the randomicity of pantograph arc, it is difficult for us to research on the track test of pantograph arc.So it has very important significance to simulate and test of pantograph arc in the experimental stage. The main methods of study on the pantograph arc are due to the design of test device, as well as a lot of simulated experiments have been done on the current test-bed of electric arc mechanism. It was pointed out the generation mechanism of the pantograph arc.The meaningful results to research the influence on current and voltage of the pantograph arc are obtained.Detection method of pantograph arc at home and abroad is summarized in the paper. Based on a lot of international and our country’s papers and based on the current test-bed of electric arc mechanism in Southwest Jiaotong University, an arc simulated test system is designed independently. The slipping contact between pantograph and catenary like "Z" sampling could be simulated in the arc simulated test system. The speed, voltage and the load is adjustable. The input-output electric current and voltage between the pantograph and catenary could be simulated. Based on the electrical parameters of the electric arc tested under the sample frequency25kHz and0.25ms, voltage current characteristic of the AC and DC electric arc is obtained. The results shows that the current harmonic and voltage harmonic of the electric arc is odd harmonics. The harmonic below mainly concentrated in500Hz.Based on the theory of pantograph catenary arc plasma and spectrophotometry, and through the MATLAB software, the optical model of pantograph arc are established. We analyze the spectrum and sound spectrum of arc, and we obtain a conclusion that the arc best detection wavelength of optical detection method is220nm-225nm,323nm-329nm and380nm-400nm. The pantograph arc (high frequency electromagnetic wave) will form co-frequency interference on the GSM-R wireless communication system.This thesis, summarized the methods of the test device system on pantograph arc, and provided reference for the practical line detection. At the ending, outlook the pantograph arc detection system and the research direction in the future, pointed out the development work need to improve. Thus the research on the current test-bed of electric arc mechanism can be practical.
