Diagrid tube structure is a new type of structural system developed and applied inrecent years. Seismic damage evaluation is one of the directions of the performancebased seismic design method (PBSD) research. In this paper, based on the materialdamage with physical significance, a seismic damage model for local members andglobal structures is established. Through analyzing the evolutionary process ofmember-scale damage distribution and global-scale structural damage, the failuremechanism of diagrid structure is represented completely. The specific research contentsare concluded as follows:(1) Research on seismic damage models of structural members. Study the damagecharacteristics of all structural members under earthquake. Based on the materialdamage, seismic damage models are established to achieve the material-scale refinedanalysis. The damage distribution coefficient, reflecting the distribution of member’sdamage along the storey, is introduced to represent the damage distribution patterns ofall kinds of members, and simplify the calculation of global damage.(2) Member-scale damage evaluation on diagrid tube structure. The choosing ofdamage distribution coefficients are studied for vertical and horizontal members. Theweighted coefficients of compression/tension damage are determined. In the basis ofthat, the damage distribution patterns and evolutionary process of structural membersare summarized, which is the damage evaluation on member scale.(3) Global-scale damage evaluation on diagrid tube structure. Study the combinedmethods from storey damage to global damage for structural members. Divide themembers into two kinds: key members and dissipation members, and consider that theweight of former is greater than the latter. The weighted coefficients are determined by anumber of statistical analyses, and then the method of global-scale damage evaluation isestablished.(4) Test verification of proposed evaluation method. The proposed evaluationmethod is applied to a seismic damage evaluation on a test model of diagrid tubestructure, and the evaluation results are in good agreement with the data and observationof shaking table test, which verifies the correctness and applicability of proposedevaluation method.
