In biological ammonia oxidation process, for the problem of slow growth ofautotrophic microorganism (ammonia oxidizing bacteria) and inferior ofammonia oxidizing activity, this paper takes raising the ammonia oxidizingbacteria quantity and metabolic activity as the goal. Based on environmentallyfriendly material, tourmaline, paper discusses the impact of tourmaline onammonia oxidation.Firstly paper discusses the impact of tourmaline on physical and chemicalproperties of water. From tourmaline dosage, mixing conditions, using numberto placing time, discussing tourmaline on the pH, DO, conductivity value ofwater. Tourmaline can effectively adjust the pH value to alkalescence (8.0),improve the conductivity and DO concentration.In order to solve the problem of slow growth and poor ammonia oxidizingactivity of ammonia oxidizing bacteria in the process of ammonia oxidation,with the method of adding tourmaline, the experiment studies the influence oftourmaline on ammonia oxidizing bacteria and ammonia oxidizing activity.Results show that tourmaline can promote the growth of ammonia oxidizingbacteria (Nitrosomonas) by shortening the lag phase, increasing bacteriaquantity, bacterial dehydrogenase activity and oxidation rate of ammoniaoxidation. Through the change of pH and concentration of inorganic carbonsource, the optimum concentration of pH is8.0and the optimum concentrationof inorganic carbon source is4g/L. Ammonia oxidizing activity is not affectedby pH value.In order to research the promoting effect of tourmaline on ammoniaoxidation, with the analysis of tourmaline by heat treatment, experimentdiscusses modified tourmaline’s influence on physicochemical property of waterand activity of ammonia oxidizing. It is found that after heat treatment, thephysical state, internal structure (SEM) and infrared absorption spectroscopychange, spontaneous electrode feature enhances. This directly influences onwater (pH, DO, conductivity) and ammonia oxidation rate by increasing the pH value, DO value, conductivity of water and promoting ammonia oxidizingbacteria growth and ammonia oxidation rate. Under the condition of400℃and800℃calcination, spontaneous electrode properties of tourmaline is apparent,while with the calcination temperature of1000℃, due to the internal structureis destroyed, electrode properties of tourmaline disappear, the impact on thewater and ammonia oxidation disappear. Ammonia oxidation kinetics modelshows that, under the condition of400℃calcination, ammonia oxidation rate ismaximum,3.007mg/(L·h).
