July7custom is one of China’s traditional customs,“Xing Ji”,“Qi Qiao”,“the meeting ofCowherd and Weaver Girl” are traditional content of July7, however, this kind of traditiongenerally tends to the sinking after peoples republic. The contemporary government tries to saveit by multi-form, but the result doesn’t turn obvious. July7custom in contemporary Chao Shandistrict takes “hoping” as center, regional lineage as carrier and "Meeting the Parents","Gardencustoms","Girls Festival" as manifestation, standing the test of time. The splendous content inChao Shan come down in one continuous line with the old traditional July7custom, this provideus a chance to re-examine and re-inquire into the heritage and development of the July7custom.Based on Documentation Method, Corporate Ethnography Field Observation and method ofComparative Analysis, this paper investigates July7custom in contemporary Chao Shan districtfrom the perspective of folklore and anthropology, including the traditional part and modern part.It is composed of four part—introduction, main body, conclusion and appendix. Introduction partdeals with the topics of regional area and cultural characteristics of the area chosen, besides, itreveals the methods, purpose and reason for selected topic and related researches. In the mainbody part, we discuss about the traditional July7custom, modern Chao Shan July7custom, therelationship of these two part and its value. More specifically, the first chapter introduces thedifferent performance of July7custom during “Xing Ji”,“Qi Qiao” period and gives briefanalysis of each stage of customs. Chapter two uses the method of literature and field methods,shows the survey results and analyzes for Modern Chao Shan July7content and status. Chapterthree deals with the relationship between traditional custom and modern custom throw the angleof inheritance and variation. Consistent with chapter three, Chapter four gives a comprehensivedisplay of the value of the Chao Shan July7customs. The last section serves as a wholesummary and conclusion of the full text, pointing out the prospects of July7customs, and thenuses the Chao Shan July7customs as a reference point, proposing that the inheritance of July7custom is actually a kind of private voluntary behavior. Appendix part is the author’s surveyinterview.
