In recent years, the Internet of Things is regarded as the engine of global economic recovery, many countries in the world have invested heavily in building the Internet of Things environment. With the popularity of radio technology and LSI applications, RFID technology is an advanced identification and data capture technology, and it’s also the one sensing layer core technology of the Internet of Things. RFID. as an emerging automatic identification technology, has been widely used in many aspects, such as the animal identification field, medical field, logistics field, and so on.This thesis provided a comprehensive analysis of RFID composition, theory, performance indicators, classification, standard protocols, typical applications, on the basis of that, more RFID reader system were compared and analyzed for the demand of the application, and passive UHF RFID reader systems were explored in detail combined with the twelfth-five national project.This thesis firstly analyzed the basic testing principles and performance indicators of the RFID reader system, and then selected the test factors to design orthogonal experiments of the three kinds of mature RFID reader module (AS399x, R2000PR9000) to evaluate the performance of the reader. And finally selected the most appropriate RFID read and write system.According to the orthogonal experiments, we selected AS399x RFID module for the further study. This thesis realized the software design of AS399x according to the given instructions and protocols. These are the basic functions:to achieve the tags’ EPC numbers through scanning, select the tag, change the EPC number, read the user memory area, write the user memory area.Further secondary development was conducted on the basis of this read and write software. Combined with the national "Twelfth Five-Year" project needs, we developed the active identification function and realized the conception of active RFID sensor. Then we designed an active identification system proposal, which can be used in animal breeding area, combined with the sensor wireless transfer module based on XBEE.
