CO concentration and visibility are important meteorological factors of the traffic, environment and climate. Due to atmospheric CO gas concentration and visibility making direct impact to the person’s outdoor activities, when the concentration of the carbon monoxide becomes very high and the visibility is worse, these lead great harm to the people. It is very necessary to measure the concentration of the carbon monoxide and the visibility. Our country is relatively weak in the research and application of this respects. In view of this, this paper studies the method of measurement and the design of the related instrument. In this paper, through the comparison advantages and disadvantages of the existing visibility and CO gas concentration measurement methods, considering the large sampling space of the actual measurement environment and aiming at the realization of both measuring targets, chose double wavelength method based on infrared spectrum theory to measure CO concentration, transmission measurement to measure visibility. Do the detailed mathematical deduction of the two measurement processes. The third chapter gives the project of the whole measurement system, including the optical system, mechanical structure, hardware circuit, software frame. The fourth chapter elaborates on the design of the hardware parts:light source and detector selection, light path structures, mechanical structure design, signal acquisition and control circuit design. The detailed design of the whole system hardware circuit, including light emission drive, limit switch, motor drive, signal amplification filtering, AD conversion, photoelectric isolation, DA conversion,232and485communication, relay switch, DC regulated power supply, address selection circuit, etc. The fifth chapter introduces the lower computer software parts of the system emphatically:AD conversion, interrupt, data read, serial communication, measurement process, etc. The sixth chapter gives the experimental results, measuring results and error source analysis. The final is the full text summary and the outlook of future work direction.
