With the development of science and technology, we have alreadyentered the age of information, and we have to face the various kindsof complicated information at anytime and anywhere, so we mustenhance the capabilities of the information transmission. The onehand, there are two or more good points in the traditional wirelessmicrowave communication, which can no longer meet the requirements ofbandwidth in modern information transmission. On the other hand,optical fiber communication has lots of advantages, such as low loss,large bandwidth, strongly anti-interference ability and so on. Andthe new one which integrates the whole advantages of wirelessmicrowave communication and optical fiber communication will be shinein the future. Microwave photonic filter causes increasingly focus ofscientists as an important part of microwave photonics.This paper begins with the development and features of microwavephotonics, gives the method how to generate the microwave signal withlight, including means of optical injection locking technology,optical phase-locked ring and based on externally modulated microwavesignal, and then introduce the significance of studying microwavephotonic filter, as well as domestic and foreign status. Thendescribes related theories. a modulation method and characteristicsof the microwave photonic filter mainly from two aspects of the phasemodulation and intensity modulation, as well as the numbers of tapsthe weighing coefficient of the respective branch and the delay timecontribute on the filter performance. And then we calculate filtercharacteristics of two-tap and four-tap, discussed when an increase in the number of taps, the filter characteristic curve of the peakbecomes sharp, the Q value increases, the filter characteristicsbecomes well, but the introduction of the sidelobes, the filteringadversely. Then discussed different power proportional loop, thefiltering characteristics of the IIR type filter, when the power morehours access loop larger the Q value, the better the filtercharacteristic, but in practical applications, since the looppowerattenuation quickly access the power of small filtering effect is notobvious. Then discuss the cascade structure, and when the totalsystem function equals levels transfer function multiplied. And weuse optisystem software to simulate the mode of two-tap and four-tapFIR structure and related cascade structure, simulation and thecalculation consistent. Finally, we build the microwave photonicfilter system, test every delay device parametric and actual filtercharacteristics of the cascade structure, and we find it consistentwith the theoretical calculation and simulation results.
