With the development of Mobile Internet, multimedia mobile terminals have played an important role in everyday life. People can have access to Internet anytime and anywhere, to get diversity of services via multimedia mobile terminal. Therefore, research on the multimedia mobile terminal has important social significance.Multimedia mobile terminal designed in this paper is based on the hardware platform of S3C6410+FPGA, using WiFi module with interface of USB as wireless network card, using FPGA module to implement ECC (Elliptic Curve Cryptography). S3C6410processor has an embedded video codec, which can encode or decode video in a variety of formts. In relation to the software of the multimedia mobile terminal, embedded Linux is adopted as the operating system, based on which device drivers and applications are developed. MIPv6technology is taken to support mobility of teminal. The main work completed in this paper is as follows.1. A solution is put forward for offering multimedia function and wireless Internet access for the mobile terminal based on ARM Linux platform. An embedded Linux system is made, including porting Bootloader, porting Linux kernel, creating root file system.2. The process of designing Linux device driver is analyzed in detail, according to the communication interface between FPGA module and S3C6410, the design and implementation of FPGA device driver is completed, meantime, its functional test is also finished.3. Based on video codec embedded in S3C6410processor, a video codec driver is designed and implemented to encode or decode video, and its functional test is completed.4. Qt/Embedded is compiled and installed on the embedded Linux platform, an IP Video Phone based on Qt is designed and its functional test is completed.The result of the test shows that the whole system woks well; the drivers of FPGA and video codec work well enough to meet the requirement; The IP Video Phone can be used for voice and video calls with low transmission delay and no significanet jitter.
