Suspended particulate matter (SPM) in coastal sea water has an important impacton the marine water quality, marine life as well as regional marine ecosystems.Estuarine area are the most frequent and complex areas of suspended materialexchange, SPM concentration has an important role, whether in the ecologicalenvironment of the upper reaches of the river or the coastal marine environment. Useof remote sensing monitoring of SPM concentrations has the advantage of real-time,wide area and low cost. The existing remote monitoring of SPM concentration mostlyare experience model, low mechanism and lack of universality. This article is based on radiative transfer theory, use of semi-analyticalsemi-empirical algorithm, combined with the quasi-synchronous remote sensingimages and the measured data, analysis optical-physical processes of spectral spreadon SPM in the sea waters, through radiometric calibration, data processing, algorithmresearch, model calibration, finally, the sea surface SPM concentration of remotesensing inversion model had build. The two key crucial factors in the model is the correlation coefficient betweenSPM concentration and absorption coefficient η and the correlation coefficientbetween SPM concentration and backscattering coefficient γ. These twocoefficients obtained by the empirical statistical, the value of the two key factorsdetermine by model correction, so,the two key factors have some room foradjustment. Two key factors of the different maritime zones is not the same value, so,the coefficient of adjustment can improve the accuracy and usefulness of the model, therefore the model has the universal advantage. The research derived the sea surface (3m) SPM concentration, the multiplecorrelation coefficient between estimated results and measured data is0.8709, thestandard error is1.6124. Meanwhile, the results show that SPM concentration inHong Kong sea area are lower and it has good ecological environment.
