In wireless sensor networks, a large number of sensor nodes are deployed randomly into a target area. Those nodes are self-organized. All of them communicate with each other by wireless communication. Because they can aware the multi-dimensional information of the target object Collaboratively, Wireless sensor networks is widely used in national defense, national security, environmental monitoring, traffic management, health care, manufacturing, anti-terrorism disaster and so on.With the energy-limited sensor nodes and the poor environment, the networks can be easily influenced. Fault tolerance is an important indicator to measure network performance. Fault-tolerance design includes different parts, such as hardware fault tolerance, fault-tolerant coverage and fault-tolerant topology control, fault-tolerant routing, fault detection, and data integration. As a method of fault-tolerance routing, less research has done in multi-path routing about hierarchical wireless sensor networks. This thesis mainly discusses the following points.(1)Firstly, classify the common routing protocols in wireless sensor networks. Our study shows that, the hierarchical sensor networks do better to rationalize the nodes’ resource. LEACH protocol is a clustering routing which has some problem on the cluster-formation and there is a certain lack of communication. This paper proposes a distance-based clustering algorithm combined with MTE algorithm in order to improve LEACH protocol. This new protocol leads to more reasonable cluster and smaller energy consumption.(2)This paper analyzes today’s fault-tolerance technique in wireless sensor networks. In order to improve the reliability of data transmission, the multi-path method is used in the clusterin WSN. A multi-path fault tolerance protocol on hierarchical sensor works is proposed by the rearch on some typical multi-path routing protocols. By generating redundant paths, we can increase the optional path to deal with the failure of link or sensor nodes. The alter path selection strategy is given in this paper. Theoretical analysis shows that the multi-path fault tolerance is feasible.(3)Finally, build the wireless sensor network model on the OPNET simulation platform based the work above. Use the three-tier modeling approach to complete the simulation of the routing protocol called TDMR. Simulation research shows that this protocol can effectively improve the fault tolerance of WSN based on the optimizing of nodes’resource utilization.
