Research On Social Work Intervention To The Service Of The Urban Elderly

The aging of the population is considered to be a worldwide social problem, which has been incorporated into the focus of academic research. The elderly is not only one integral part of the social vulnerable groups, but also the main service object of social work. Both their life conditions and mental status belong to important contents of social work.In this paper, a questionnaire survey on the needs of130elderly in Lanzhou was conducted by an occasional sampling method and it finally finds that needs of the urban elderly failed to meet from five following aspects:economic security, spiritual consolation, social interaction, self-fulfillment and access to information. Meanwhile, through analysis it also finds that the current situation arises from two factors. First, the social support system of the elderly is not sound and perfect; second, social work practitioners who are lack in professional knowledge always confuse their own multiple roles and various tasks. Based on the argument, the paper analyzes the approaches of professional social work intervention to the elderly needs from social work methods, and provides a new direction for the localized research of social work.
