| In recent years, the contemporary literature in both Taiwan and mainland Chinahave shown a trend of diversified development, during which the feminist literature hasgrown to be a significant member. On the Chinese mainland, Zhangjie, the first feministwriter in contemporary feminist literature history, is absolutely a representative figure.In Taiwan, Liao Huiying, as an outstanding one of the new feminist literature group, canbe hailed as a pure writer of the female problems.In the1980s, Zhangjie and Liao Huiying were active in the feminist thoughtrespectively in Taiwan and mainland China. They are comparable because of theirshared historical background, the same female standpoint and cultural identity, as wellas the common feminist consciousness. Therefore, this paper will make a comparison ofthe novels of Zhangjie and Liao Huiying from a female perspective, and explore thecauses of their differences. The end is to highlight their distinctive writing features andtheir unique values in literary history.This paper comprises the introduction, the main body of four chapters, and theconclusion.The introduction part mainly gives a review and evaluations of the comparativestudy on the cross-Straits feminist literature, the novels of Zhangjie, and the works ofLiao Huiying.In the first chapter, their novels composed in the1980s are compared form theperspective of feminist consciousness. The similarities are displayed from the feministconsciousness development and gender cognition, while the differences are elaboratedfrom the views on love and marriage as well as the view of life.The second chapter makes a comparative study on their novels composed in1980son the basis of the shaping of the female and male behavior types. They both created aseries of strong-mined female characters and coward male characters, but the description ways they used are distinctive and from two different angles of view.The third chapter deals with the method of women’s liberation. They bothemphasize women’s self-reflection and self-dependence, however, they take differentopinions on how to cope with gender relationship.The fourth chapter analyzes the principal causes behind their distinctiveness of thesame root from the aspects of social culture, individual experience and writing strategy.The conclusion part briefly evaluates the literary values of their novels composedin the1980s. |
