We learn about the adjective-adverb words In Modern Chinese language dictionary（5thedition）by the way of identical principal based on ontology research ofChinese.First of all, the paper gives the adjective-adverb words a simple definitiontentatively based on the theory of many scholars.the writer expounds the differencebetween adjective words used as adverbial modifier just like adverb words andadjective-adverb words and the difference between the adverb words used as attributejust like adjective words and adjective-adverb words because of the complexity ofcharacter,limits and classify for an adverb and adjective.In addition the paperanalyzes the difference between the word-class shift,perfect homonyms andadjective-adverb words and the writer tells a way to distinguish the uses of anadjective word,an adverb word or an adjective-adverb word.There are functionextension inside class of the multi-category words and classify them into three parts.Second, combining with the theory of categories, it is displayed how all theadjective-adverb words functions distribute by calculating and statistics. Further more,all the words are divided into three parts:one kind is used as adjectives much morefrequently than adverbs; one kind is used as adverbs much more frequently thanadjectives; the last kind’s usage frequency as adjectives and adverbs is almost.Andthe three parts are successive.It is analyzed for the development progress subjectivelyin this paper.It’s sustainable to research deeply.The writer hopes that this paper can provide benefits to the research on the adjective-adverb words on ontology of Chineseand Chinese teaching for foreigners.
