Liyuan Buildings, the special residential buildings, are one of the charateristics of Qingdao, Liyuan’s spirit of place reflects its idiosyncrasy. Not only does it merge the architectural feature with eastern and western, but also bring people strong belongingness, because it saves the precious historical relics, and keep people’s common memory of the city. However, while the new science and technologies make the city more developed and advanced, they also destroy many liyuan places full of culture value. These liyuans, most of which are in old city, are removed, abandoned or rebuild without programming. Its spirit value contained in history and culture is usually ignored by people. This phenomenon makes it lose its essential sense, and makes the old city fall down gradually. So it is very important to revitalize the liyuan’s traditional charm in the process of development in the brand-new time.In this paper, the study firstly trims the theory about the spirit of place, historical street, and city image, and then concludes that the spirit of place of historical street is mainly embodied in four aspects:natural environment, artificial environment, behavior factor, and culture environment. Secondly, the study examines liyuan street from the standpoint of the spirit of place, and concludes that the fact that liyuan contains spirit of place is not only caused by the designer’s creation, but an integration of environment, place and human behavior, these elements determine its development. At last, the study intensifies the sense of place during its protect and development, concludes the basic strategy for continuing the spirit of place, and makes the spirit of place of historical street run a long course from a remote source at any time.
