| Zhengzhou is one of the most serious water shortage areas. The most important way to solve the water shortage is water-saving. In order to save water, we not only take advantage of the engineering and technical measures to achieve income and reduce expenditure, but also need to find measure from the mechanism, and innovation management and policy and find a solution on a large scale and higher level, to ensure regional water safety and achieve the sustainable development of water resources.The theory of virtual water and water footprint are new concepts and methods proposed by the past two decades. Water resources is linked to food production and people’s daily consumption, and calculated water consumption and utilization effiency from the point of production and consumption.Based on the theory of water footprint, the virtual water consumption and water footprint of Zhenghou city are calcuted, and the results are analyzed. The main contents are as follows:(1) We backstep the virtual water consumption and water footprint of Zhengzhou city, and analysis the variation trend of them. The virtual water consumption and water footprint of Zhengzhou city for the period of1999to2008is calculated. The results suggest that, the virtual water and water footprint of Zhenghou city indicated a growing trend, and the virtual water and fottprint of per urban resident is significantly higher than them of rural resident.(2) The evolution process of virtual water and water footprint under different consumption patterns is analysized. The results suggest that, people are mainly consume grain production to meet the needs for food before2003, and the virtual water consumption of grain production, which lead to higher virtual water consumption, is high. With the development of economy, people’s income level has a growing trend after2003, and virtual water and water footprint are growing whit the increase of the consumption of other production, such as eggds, milk, and cakes.(3) The quantitative relationship between water footprint and water use efficiency is analysized. This paper study the relationship of water footprint and economy of Zhengzhou city, and the quantitative relationship between water footprint and GDP is analysized with the main indicator of water footprint intensity. The results suggest that, water footprint intensity of Zhengzhou city has a decreased trend year by year, and this reflects that water use efficiency of Zhengzhou city has increased annually.Based on new methods of water resources, water footprint of Zhengzhou city is completely calculated, and this paovides new methods and ideas to evaluate the use of water resources. We can reasonablely adjust the main factors effected water footprint, and then effectively reduce the utilization amount of water resources. It can improve water use efficiency and achieve tha sustainable development of water resources. |
