With the development of China, we pay more and more attention to the regional architectural culture. There is a trend in pursuit of Chinese characteristic architectural theory in design field. As while, there is more and more scholars, theorists and practice workers keeping a watchful eye on the application of Chinese traditional architectural theory in today’s design. Traditional religious architecture as an building which reflects the traditional spirit pursuit, it has important significance to expound Chinese traditional architectural theory. This paper researches traditional Taoist temple architecture which build on special landform.The paper first expounded topic research background, cleared the purpose of the research and meaning, analysised the theory at homeland and abroad. According to the actual situation of subject research, put forward the method and technique for subject research. The articles related to basic research field, through the survey of built Chinese traditional Taoist temple architecture that build on special natural terrain environment. And then, for further study of Chinese traditional architectural design theory of Taoist temple, included the special requirements of Taoist temple architecture to space spirit. The next we presented a concrete concepts and define boundaries about special natural terrain environment, analysised cause and purpose of Chinese traditional Taoist temple architecture that build on special natural terrain environment, as while, we concluded ways and means. To provide the theory basis and the reference, for my own practice project——religious buildings in jinshi cave, jinsi canyon.
